Tatsumiyajima is the central island in the heart of a tiny group of islands in the Japanese islands’ tranquil backwater. There isn’t much going on in Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor – The Beyond Part 3 Episode 2, and the island youth attend school knowing that their lives are likely to be tranquil and calm.
At least, that is what they have been told; the reality is otherwise. Tatsumiyajima is the last line of defense against a hostile and impenetrable foe, and the fate of humanity is at stake. The considerable robot Fafner, the dragon that defends this last piece of humanity’s wealth, is at the core of it all, fighting for humanity’s continued existence.
Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor – The Beyond Part 3 Episode 2: Plot
The distant Japanese island of Tatsumiyajima (, lit. Dragon Palace Island) has been spared damage by the Festum only because of an advanced cloaking barrier at the start of the Fafner: Dead Aggressor story cycle. As a result, young people on the island carry on with their everyday activities without being aware of these incidents. However, after a protracted period of calm, a lone Festum finds Tatsumiya and launches an attack.
The grownups try to fend off the assailant by turning on Tatsumiya’s covert defenses, but they are unsuccessful. The Festum assimilates them by killing a large number of them. They order the deployment of the Fafner Mark Elf mecha out of desperation. However, the murder of the pilot takes place on the way to the hangar. With nothing else to do, they send Kazuki Makabe, a young child, to serve as the substitute pilot, supported by Sshi Minashiro from the Siegfried System.
At the end of Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor – The Beyond Part 3 Episode 2, the grownups decide to move to Tatsumiya Island. It is after the destruction of the Festum makes its location known. More children recruitment takes place to operate the additional Fafner units. Moreover, the speed of production is going up. It is also evident that the cloaking was intentional. The motive was to hide Tatsumiya Island from the rest of humanity, who could try to use its technology in the more significant conflict against the Festum.
